CELEBRATE THANKSGIVING IN CENTRAL OHIO

Looking for a new way to celebrate Thanksgiving? Have you wanted to forego the work involved in the traditional thanksgiving meal to the protest of your family?

Here are some unique Thanksgiving events to include in your 2016 calendar:

• Hearthside Cooking Workshop at Malabar Farm in Lucas, Ohio. Go back in time and learn how to cook like the pioneers did. Be sure to sign up for the November 5 and 6 workshop in advance.
• Kick off the season at the Holiday Parade in downtown Mansfield on November 19 at 10 a.m. On the corner of Main and 5th Street, you’ll get a glimpse of Santa, along with lots more holiday cheer.
• Take in the sights at Christmas at Kingwood 2016. On November 26 and 27, Kingwood Hall will be decked out for the holidays. In addition to live music, outdoor light displays, and many uniquely trimmed Christmas trees to behold, there will be lots of other activities to do, too.
• Go on a hike. In honor of National Take a Hike Day, Lowe-Volk Park is hosting two guided hikes on November 17. Lisa Bogard will take groups through the park at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. There’s no better time to get your body moving in preparation for the big feast day up ahead!
• Get in a walk while watching for birds at Sears Woods. On November 26 at 3 p.m., Warren Uxley will take visitors on a guided tour of the woods, watching for the various birds that land in our area for the winter.
• Enjoy a lighted display at Marion County Fairgrounds. Starting November 25 and running through December 25, you can tour the Christmas by Candlelight display, featuring a nativity scene, animated characters and more.
• Don’t forget shopping! Local stores around Bucyrus will be open for the famous shopping weekend. On Black Friday, stop by unique downtown shops like U B Dazzled or 3 Great Ladies. You can also visit Crossroads Candles, where the candles featured in Bob Evans restaurants are sold, or Coopers Mill for jams and jellies. Experience the Amish Vault where handcrafted furniture and home decor is sold, or watch a copper kettle smith in action at Picking Copper Kettle.
• Take advantage of shopping deals on the internet! Catch all the action on Cyber Monday.
