Five Ideas for a Late Summer to Early Fall Ohio Outdoor Wedding

Thinking about or having a late summer or early fall wedding? The main idea these days is that outdoor weddings be fun and comfortable! Rules are heading straight out the window. It’s your day, you can pink peonies in September if you’d like! However, if you do follow seasonal rules you may save money on décor, flowers, and food for your outdoor festivities.

If you are thinking about colors, décor, and options for your late summer weddings that ride the line of being an early autumn wedding our advice is that you can really offer the same vibrant rich hues of orange, bronze, gold, fuschia, Nantucket red, mixed with cream and white and adhere to either season.

Here are FIVE ideas to get your plans finalized for an end-of-summer outdoor wedding:

It’s an outdoor wedding late in the summer season so it is bound to be hot. Make sure you offer fans for your guests. You could buy beautiful fans and give as favors, made from bamboo, or offer patterned accordion style paper fans that fit your theme and color choices. Or you could turn your wedding program into a fan for a unique multi-tasking approach. Just have it printed on a square or rectangle paper fan on a stick. If you design your program in your wedding theme colors with a beautiful design, they’ll look quite lovely.

You’ll be wearing white, but you can spruce up your look not only with gorgeous flowers, but with a shock of bright or deep color in your shoes, clutch purse, hair accessory, or have your bridesmaids wear gowns in neutral bronze or taupe hues and have them add color the same way. This is a way that says light like long days of summer, yet brings in rich colors of late summer and fall.

Holding your wedding and reception outdoors near a garden offers a wonderful scenic backdrop for your big day, with flowers, butterflies, and trees, and you can adorn in a whimsical way with paper lanterns in bright or deep colors and hang white twinkling lights and lanterns from tree to tree. If you are getting married near an outdoor butterfly garden, as a couple you can let go some beautiful butterflies once you’ve tied the knot. Or forgo the usual rice or confetti throwing and have your guests be involved, letting them set butterflies free as a good luck token to your marriage.

Have a cocktail bar that features the fruit of summer and late summer. Line the table with bowls of seasonal and colorful fruit that is cut to easily fit in a glass or for light eating. At the table also feature aromatic herbs like mint, thyme, or rosemary and have bowls of lemons and limes. Make to incorporate peaches and strawberries as well as melon and pineapple to the choices. Then offer a beautiful display of syrups and cocktail mixes in fruity selections for taste and color, surrounded by champagne, sparkling white wine, and liquor. Your guests can drink Mimosas, Strawberry Daiquiris, Pina Coladas, and Bellinis. Set out cocktail or wine glasses and you’ll have hands clutching chests in awe.

Use sunflowers! Need we say more? Sunflowers are lovely whether late summer or early fall, add a touch of rustic or country chic, are vibrant, and can be mixed with a variety of colors. You don’t have to only do brown and yellow, you can mix sunflowers into a country design or in a more modern design with prints. Feature them in your bouquets, in mini-form on your tables, in the hair of your bridemaids, on the program, and even on signs around your outdoor reception.
