The Historic Lincoln Byway having BUY-WAY sale in Ohio in August! Plan Your Weekend Getaway!

Do you love to find treasures? Travel for antiques or thrift items that you can display, sell, or turn into other creative items? Come to Ohio for what has to be about the longest stretch of thrifty sales anywhere and take part in the annual Lincoln Highway sale! You'll have fun while viewing a part of history and partaking in the nostalgia of days gone by.

The Ohio Lincoln Highway BUY-WAY Yard Sale in Ohio begins Thursday, August 7 and runs through Saturday, August 9, 2014 from the Indiana line east to Chester and Newell, West Virginia.  According to the website for the Historic Byway, the sales are put on by various individuals and organizations that reside along the Lincoln Highway, which was America's first paved transcontinental road which ran from New York to San Francisco, and roughly parallels US Route 30 in Ohio.

This sales event has been going on for ten years, beginning with about 250 participants across Ohio’s portion, and now has over 1,200 recorded sales in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and West Virginia. This could be an amazing road trip, but you’ll need to be sure to bring a vehicle with enough room to store and take home your finds! Bucyrus has some of the best Lincoln Highway markers and nostalgia for all the history buffs!

Traveler’s maps and guides are available at many service stations, convenience stores, and other retailers across Ohio or click here for where to find a Travelers Guide. This list will be updated a week prior to the 2014 sale, it was noted.

The BUY-WAY Yard Sale participants in any of the states can list their sale information on the website Historic Byway where travelers can print it out and take with them. They also have a Facebook page, Ohio Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor, which posts the latest information.

You can read about the history of the historic byway here.

HideAway Country Inn would love for you take a short scenic drive off the byway and spend the night with us in one of our gorgeous, comfortable, private, and relaxing rooms, equipped with jetted tubs or Jacuzzis in which to rest your weary shopping feet. We are centrally located in the rural countryside near Bucyrus, Marion, Mansfield, and Sandusky, Ohio.

The 1928 route of the Lincoln Highway between Crestline and Bucyrus features several of the best landmarks on the entire transcontinental route, states the Lincoln Byway guide. It has two brick pillars in Crestline, and one brick pillar near Bucyrus, plus both the stone monument and stone pillar at the east edge of Bucyrus. They said that “there is no other section in Ohio with so many excellent landmarks still in place!” Even the murals painted in downtown Bucyrus have the Lincoln Highway signs!
