Tips for Adding Olive Oil to Your Natural Beauty and Spa Treatments

Seeking at-home and natural beauty care tips and tricks to replenish our skin, hair, and body is a trend. Even if you generally go to a salon or spa, there are many ways to supplement your trips to keep looking vibrant and fresh at all times of the year, but especially during the summer months when everyone wants to look their finest.

It’s amazing all the various natural oils and ingredients you can find even in your own kitchen! From lemons, to essential oils, to coconut oil, to sugar and salt, our cupboards are a wealth of goodness. One of the best choices is olive oil.  Olive oil is one of those wonderful, best-loved ancient secrets that really doesn’t have to hide any longer or be used just for cooking!

Skin Care

Olive oil is a hypoallergenic alternative to moisturizing skin and extra virgin olive oil has the added advantage of providing strong antioxidants, like Vitamins A and E.  These vitamins repair and renew skin that has been damaged from sun, pollution, and environmental hazards.

According to The Olive Oil Source website, antioxidants “have the natural ability to stimulate cells and return skin to a firmer, smoother, and healthier state.” It’s best applied to damp skin and while it can take longer to soak in, it’s worth it. Try mixing it with your favorite herb or use it with sea salt for a natural exfoliation.

Hair Care

Do you love the look of straight, shiny hair? Want the sun to gleam off your locks? Apply a generous amount of olive oil into your hair and cover your head with a towel. After 30 minutes, shampoo your hair as you normally would. It acts as a deep conditioner. You’ll look fabulous and if you have any dandruff issues, it can take care of that too!

Try this recipe for brittle or over-processed hair:

Mix a 1/2 cup of olive oil with one beaten egg, rinse your hair with the solution, put on a plastic cap and leave on for 30 to 45 minutes. Use the treatments weekly to monthly to improve the condition. (From eHow)

Nail Care

For healthy nails, soak them in a small bowl of olive oil for 20 minutes. It can moisturize the cuticles, softening them so they don’t crack and the nail itself will shine. Rub the oil on your entire hands for soft, supple skin.
