Kentucky Derby Party in Ohio at the HideAway Country Inn: Celebrate the Tradition with Us!
Do you look forward to the thrill of a horse race? If so, you probably are making plans to watch or celebrate in fine fashion the famous Kentucky Derby! No reason why you can’t prance around in a big, decorated hat right here in Ohio! Come and indulge in the tradition of the Kentucky Derby race with us here at the HideAway Country Inn, located in Central Ohio, near Bucyrus and Marion. We’ll be having our Kentucky Derby party the weekend of May 2 and 3, 2014, as the Derby is May 3, 2014.
Watch the “most exciting two minutes in sports” with us on our flat screen TVs located in our Leaning Oak Bistro and Wine Bar. With high tables and stools, relaxing couches, and bar seating, you are sure to find your comfort spot. You’ll feel right at home for the Derby sitting in our Kentucky Bourbon recycled barrel lined bistro.
Two festive wines from 14 Hands in Washington will be featured at the Ohio Derby Party, “Hot to Trot” red and “Hot to Trot” white. Both are patio wines and great to sip while enjoying company, fun, and the race, as our patio will be open for the Derby!
We’ll also feature the Mint Julep, the official beverage of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby. According to the Kentucky Derby website, almost 120,000 Early Times Mint Juleps are served over the two-day period of Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby weekend at Churchill Downs Racetrack!
At HideAway Inn, we probably won’t serve quite that many during our Kentucky Derby party, but we hope you enjoy the fun. And if you do drink more than two, or have a few glasses of wine, we hope you’ve arranged to stay with us in one of our cozy, quaint, and comfortable rooms where you can extend your party into a getaway weekend and enjoy a jetted tub, Jacuzzi, and a delicious morning breakfast.
Or stay with us the night before for drinks, have a hearty breakfast, don your fashion, and enjoy the party with us for the day. Just make sure you have a designated driver.
If you are interested in the Mint Julep for home, here is the recipe from the Kentucky Derby website for their official drink:
The Early Times Mint Julep Recipe
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- Sprigs of fresh mint
- Crushed ice
- Early Times Kentucky Whisky
- Silver Julep Cups
Make a simple syrup by boiling sugar and water together for five minutes. Cool and place in a covered container with six or eight sprigs of fresh mint, then refrigerate overnight. Make one julep at a time by filling a julep cup with crushed ice, adding one tablespoon mint syrup and two ounces of Early Times Kentucky Whisky. Stir rapidly with a spoon to frost the outside of the cup. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
