Pool season is right around the corner kicking many of us into health conscience mode. Of course here at HideAway Inn, food and dining are a big aspect of what makes us the ultimate relaxing destination getaway. Our chef is here to tell you that you can have your cake and eat it too! Many believe April and May are “crunch time” to kick diets into full force or even go as far as a spring detox. The word “detox” can carry a bad reputation but there is a different way to think of a detox than the typical juice diet or starvation diet. A 5 day spring detox is actually a great time to boost metabolism, optimize digestion and boost energy. Below, our chef shares the main “rules” to follow that won’t leave you feeling hungry or deprived.
1) Eliminate Coffee
Coffee is acidic, a diuretic and can often make you feel shaky when cleansing. Instead of coffee, try drinking an herbal, green or white tea. The antioxidants help to not leave you with a coffee withdrawal headache.
2) Opt for Colorful Foods
Fruits and vegetables are high in fibers, minerals, vitamins and plant chamicals that help to prevent and even treat diseases. They also are low glycemic index and will help you to sustain energy while flushing out your system.
Supplement your diet with high quality multi-vitamins, fish oil supplements and probiotics. Healthy absorptions is key to helping you look and feel your best.
4) Eat Lean Protein
Opt for foods such as egg whites, chicken, turkey and fish. Avoid all red meats and dairy for 5 days.
5) Drink Water!
Water helps with elimination and to give you a full feeling longer.
